So I outline a method of learning and stress certain points about the golf swing." Boomer teaches you - painstakingly at times - how the correct golf swing feels in all its component parts. Once you know how it feels you can train your body to duplicate that feel and you can accept or reject advice from anyone on the basis of its feel. The idea is to find the way to take the cerebral cortex, so to speak, out of the swing and to make it a part of our instinctual life. At first, Boomer's world is as strange as Alice's in Wonderland. You mean when my hands are up I should feel down? Precisely. Why did you say my wrist should not be cocked? I did not say they should not be cocked, I said that you should not cock them. Then I must definitely not try to drive the ball down the middle? You definitely must not. You have tried to do that for years and gradually become worse and worse. That is why you came to me for advice. This bold new way of thinking about the golf swing will very quickly be accepted by you as quite ordinary.

Bob Cahill, who wrote the Afterword for On Learning Golf, has an excellent mind, sharpened by years studying with the Jesuits. He also has an excellent golf game sharpened by years working with Boomer. Defending and promoting Boomer is not exactly like missionary work, but it is close, and Bob is up to the task. He will have a Boomer in every classroom by the turn of the century.
