THE
METROPOLITAN GOLF ASSOCIATION - The Metropolitan
Golf Association was officially chartered on April 14, 1897;
at Delmonico's restaurant in NYC. There, representatives from
26 Founding Clubs got together and drafted a charter. Its
purpose, as stated in the by-laws, was to foster sportsmanship,
run tournaments, provide handicaps and promote the best interests
of the game. |

Arnold Palmer and Cornerstone Schools - Arnold
Palmer and 26 other U.S. Amateur champions gathered at the
Country Club of Detroit in 2004 for the first annual Turning
Point Invitational, commemorating the 50th anniversary of
his 1954 U.S. Amateur title. The event raised $6.3 million
for charity. Part of the proceeds from our new book,
The
United States Amateur: The History and Recollections of Its
Champions, will support the Cornerstone Schools of Detroit;
schools that Mr. Palmer visited and praised during the festivities.
